Karen Barnes has been working in the wine industry in Napa Valley for over fifteen years, focusing on Direct to Consumer sales and management. She began Wine Direct Marketing Services in 2002, focusing on managing wine clubs, allocation release programs, online marketing and eCommerce solutions for small and virtual wineries who want to increase and expand their Direct to Consumer business.

A graduate of the University of Colorado, with a degree in English and History and graduate studies in Technical Writing, Karen's earlier career focused on non-profit management and fund-development. Karen is a member of the Academy of Wine Communications, eMarketing Association Network and Non-profit Technology Network.

Jodie is a Minnesota native who moved to Santa Barbara in 1990. She worked in medical manufacturing for ten years, serving as the Director of Customer Service. Her husband Tom pursued a career as a Radiologist, where he met future winemaker and business partner Brett Escalera.

Consilience began in 1999 and opened their retail tasting room in 2004 with Jodie at the helm of the start up operations and logistics and in 2007 began their second label, Tre Anelli wines.  Their current production for both brands is approximately 9,000 cases annually.

Jodie's experience and knowledge in the corporate world provided her valuable skills in Information Technology, personnel & training, forecasting, document control and rigorous compliance requirements which has allowed her success in establishing and maintaining their business. She believes that with all of these elements along with hiring the right people to share their story and sell their products – is the reason for their success.

Group Product Manager, Google Shopping

Vineet Buch joined Google following its acquisition of Like.com in August 2010, where he was Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer. Like.com pioneered personalized, discovery-based experiences for Fashion Shopping, and, at Google, Vineet lead the development of Google's first vertically-focused shopping site - Boutiques.com. Vineet currently manages Google Shopping.

In addition to his entrepreneurial stint, Vineet has been a Venture Capitalist investing in companies such as Slide (also acquired by Google) during his time as a Partner at BlueRun Ventures. Vineet was also an early employee and Senior Director of Engineering at Corio, one of the first Cloud Computing companies (NSDQ: CRIO, acquired by IBM).  

Vineet started his career at Oracle, where in his last role he was a Director in the Database group. Vineet has a Masters in Computer Science from Cornell and a Bachelors in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

David Devan
Hospitality and Retail Manager, Chateau Montelena

A native of San Diego, California, David started his hospitality career over 30 years ago while attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas studying Hospitality Management. He has worked for industry leaders such as Princess Cruises, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts and the iconic Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. He helped create, develop and launch 28 Ritz-Carlton properties globally. He has been fortunate to work in operations as well as in corporate development roles for both Princess Cruises and Ritz-Carlton.

He moved to St. Helena four years ago and joined the team at the historic winery Chateau Montelena and quickly learned the ropes of a new industry and joined the management team within a few months. His current position is now running the Hospitality and Retail sales experience for two other Barrett family wine brands while still remaining with Montelena. His current role is Director of Hospitality Sales for La Sirena Wine, by Heidi Barrett and the new launch of Barrett & Barrett by husband and wife team Bo and Heidi Barrett.

Direct-to-Consumer Sales Manager, Zaca Mesa Winery

Kori has a BA in Speech Communications from Whitworth University in Spokane, WA.  She has been in Retail Sales Management since 1993.  After working for Enterprise Rent-A-Car and 7-Eleven Incorporated she transitioned into the wine industry.

She was hired as the Marketing Manager at Husch Vineyards in Anderson Valley, where she found herself with many responsibilities that were outside of her title. She was responsible for running the tasting room, wine club, shipping, as well as marketing. She then moved to a larger winery operation at the Mendocino Wine Company as the Wine Club Manager. Again she found herself not just running wine clubs but managing the Tasting Room, selling advertising, coordinating on and off site events. She learned that despite a job title at a winery any skills she was capable of having could and would be utilized.

She then decided to experience the Wholesale side of the Wine Industry and worked as a Fine Wine Specialist with the Henry Wine Group in Hollywood, CA. She was recruited to be the Wine Club Manager at Zaca Mesa Winery. Within months was promoted to Wine Club Manager and Tasting Room Manager and quickly became the Direct to Consumer Sales Manager.

Kori and her husband and two girls live in Solvang, CA on the Central Coast.

Élan Fayard has a wide-ranging international background that encompasses tourism, gastronomy, wine, journalism. Her love of wine blossomed, followed then by living and study in the Loire Valley in France. Elan's interest in wine and France led to additional studies in Bordeaux and to Provence where she lived and worked as the business development manager for the most popular culinary website in Europe, marmiton.org.

Throughout her time in France and then back in the U.S. she has held public relations, sales and marketing positions with respected Napa Valley and Sonoma wineries. Her love of journalism also allowed her to be a national radio host and food critic in the Bay Area.

She currently is a direct-to-consumer sales and marketing consultant with her own firm, consulting for wineries in Napa Valley, having worked with wineries such as Ehlers Estate, Wine by Design, Alpha Omega Winery, Long Meadow Ranch Winery & Farmstead and Ehlers Estate.

She specializes in implementing proven strategies and successful programs at wineries that drive traffic and increase sales in the direct-to-consumer segment of the wine business.

A 1978 Sonoma State University graduate with a BS in Physics and Mathematics, Ross Goodwin furthered his studies with an MBA in Finance from the University of California, Berkeley. As a 26-year veteran of Hewlett-Packard Company in marketing management and internal consulting to executives, Ross honed extensive experience in customer loyalty, voice of the customer feedback (VOC), sales support, sales training, service support, and new product definition/introduction within the high technology B2B environment.

Ross successfully developed and implemented HP's first B2B TCE survey and measurement system linkage architecture, as Corporate Manager of Customer Loyalty. This entirely new survey covered products and services representing more than 80 percent of HP B2B revenues in more than 20 countries. By working alongside senior management and international cross-functional teams in various lines of businesses, Ross spearheaded the design and implementation of competitively superior customer experiences, driving revenue growth and improving profitability. Initially Ross developed the first Customer Loyalty Management Program for a $1B division at HP, linking bottom-line business performance while working with various divisions to implement strategic change, improve customer value, and integrate customer-derived priorities into the strategic planning process.

Following HP, Ross worked as a consultant in high-technology industries, telecom, financial services, and healthcare for several marketing research firms. He is also a former California "Baldrige" Examiner.

Currently, Ross is the Managing Partner for Bennett Valley Group, developing customer feedback surveys. He also teaches business classes at College of Marin and Dominican University, and is a sales coach for CustomerCentric Selling® workshops.

A lifelong Santa Rosa resident with three children, Ross served at the President of the Board of the Bennett Valley Union School District in 1998, and a trustee from 1994-1998. Ross currently serves as a Sonoma State Alumni Association Director and California State University Alumni Council Representative.

Director of State Relations Wine Institute

Steve Gross is Director of State Relations at Wine Institute, where he has been employed since 1986. Steve’s duties entail overseeing the activities of Wine Institute’s six State Relations Regional Counsels as they address state legislation affecting the wine industry, as well as coordinating Wine Institute’s legislative and regulatory activities with staff, contract lobbyists and member wineries.

Steve regularly participates in many national programs dealing with issues facing the wine industry, both on the legislative and regulatory levels.  Steve serves on the Board of Directors of both Sustainable Conservation and the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance (CCEEB). He also serves on the Sonoma State University Wine Business Program Executive Advisory Board. A native of Nebraska, Steve brought to Wine Institute knowledge garnered during his ten years of employment in the on-sale food and beverage industry, as well as extensive experience in political campaigns and legislative activism.

The Wagner Family of Wine is a family owned and operated winemaking business. Their brands include Caymus Vineyards, Conundrum, Mer Soleil, Belle Glos and Meiomi Pinot Noir. Prior to leading the Foley Family Wines direct sales team Christopher ran direct sales for Cakebread Cellars. Prior to that, he owned and operated a hospitality consulting business for 7 years and spent 10 years with Marriott International in a variety of property and regional leadership roles. An early interest in food and restaurants led him to the School of Hotel, Restaurant & Institutional Management at Michigan State University, where he received his B.A.

Christopher lives in Healdsburg, CA with his wife and daughter. He is as passionate about hospitality, food and travel as he is about fine wine.

Nyk is the Direct to Consumer Marketing Manager at Terlato Wine Group. He manages email marketing, website content & design for Alderbrook Winery, Rutherford Hill Winery, Chimney Rock Winery, Sanford Winery, Terlato Family Vineyards, Uncorked.com, Bon Appetit Wine Shop and Jack Nicklaus Wines. He's currently managing the redesign and launch for each brands website.

Before moving to Terlato Wine Group, he worked at Chateau Montelena Winery where he was responsible for all content on the website, the webstore, and web sales. He doubled the ecommerce sales in his first year through email marketing, increased website traffic through SEO & SEM, and optimizing the websites design. Nyk was an integral part of Chateau Montelena's website redesign team, and he tracked all website traffic and conversions via Google Analytics.

Prior to Chateau Montelena, he worked at Rodney Strong Wine Estates as the Online Sales Coordinator, where he was at the forefront of the transition of their brand building site into a fully functioning ecommerce website. He was responsible for managing all of the Rodney Strong's ecommerce websites, setting up their first allocation club model, and paving their way into the social media arena.

Ron Kreutzer has over 25 years of information technology expertise, across a broad range of industries and technologies. Labeled a “techie with a CPA”, Ron's career began as a mainframe programmer with Phillips Petroleum Company.
Later, Ron would join Deloitte & Touche as a management consultant in the information technology practice and spend over nine years working up the ranks to the level of Senior Manager. Working on projects that covered the entire systems development lifecycle, across varying technologies and in numerous industries, taught Ron how to apply business strategies and information technologies to a variety of companies and situations.

After settling in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Ron's next challenge brought him to Syntel, a global IT services firm. Spending over nine years with Syntel taught Ron how to effectively leverage a global workforce to provide technology services.

Ron founded WineWeb in 1995, as an electronic marketplace for wine and with an e-commerce service for wineries, before the term “e-commerce” existed. Building the company to include a full suite of services for wineries entailed varying marketing strategies, and adjusting those throughout the years. 

Ron is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and a Certified Project Management Professional. He does his best strategizing on a chair lift at 11,000 feet.

Dina Mande
Owner and Creative Director, Juice Media

Dina Mande is an accomplished creative director, brand strategist, filmmaker, cinematographer, editor, visual fx artist and award winning producer. She is the owner/creative director of Juice Media, a boutique ad agency/production company based in Paso Robles. Juice specializes in full service advertising and branding, web development, integrated and social media marketing.

With a long history in film/TV/commercial production and advertising, Dina was also executive producer and co-founder of Subliminal, a Los Angeles commercial production company specializing in television spots and branded content. A veteran art director and graphics designer at New Wave Entertainment, Dina worked on many award-winning campaigns in television and theatrical advertising for studios and networks including Paramount Pictures, Universal, Walt Disney Studios, Fox, Sony, Warner Bros and HBO, and designed the entire graphics package for the 2004 Emmy Awards broadcast.

As a director, Dina combines her multi-disciplinary background in visual effects, graphic design and filmmaking and her projects have enjoyed several film festival awards. She is the director of the popular web trilogy, “Paso Wine Man” which has more than 100K hits on YouTube and coverage in the NY Times and took 1st place at the 2011 Wine Spectator Video of the Year Awards. Her short, “Divorce Honeymoon”, shot on her iPhone during the summer of 2011, took 2nd place. She also directed the video, “Wine Is” which won the 1st place honor of Wine Spectator Video of the Year for 2010. Her web series, “SpotLab: New Commercial Directors Breaking In” won the NATPE Web Series award for 2009. Several of her short films have run the festival circuit, including "Small Change" which played the Tribeca Film Festival and "A Dog Story,"  which played Toronto Film Festival. “Small Change” was also honored as a finalist for the More Magazine/Women in Film 2007 Director Award. Two of her comedy shorts, “HotrthnHell” and “The Witching Hour” were featured on AMC during their 2003 and 2004 Monsterfest.

As founder of the groundbreaking development program, SpotLab, Dina has helped to launch the careers of over 85 new commercial directors. Mentored by top ad agencies and production companies and shooting agency scripts, each director built a new reel in six months. Over 500 spots have been shot in the program since Jan, 2003. Based on the work done in the program, she has created a webseries, “SpotLab: New Commercial Directors Breaking In”  where she has shot behind the scenes on their sets as they completed the work to build their reels. The series took the prize for “Best New Series” in the reality category at the 2009 NATPE Next TV competition.

Prior to Group101Spots, Dina was a co-creator of Group101Films, a filmmaking collective of Hollywood entertainment industry professionals which challenged each member to produce a short film every 30 days. The collective, founded as a New Year’s resolution in January, 2000 exploded: over 500 filmmakers have embraced the "no budget, no studio, no problem" credo to shoot a short a month for six months and Group101 filmmakers produced over 2,500 short films between 2000 and 2004. Group101 chapters sprung up in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, Dallas, Las Vegas, London, Copenhagen, Winnipeg and Karachi, Pakistan.

During her spare time, Dina serves on the board of Paso Robles Paderewski Festival as the marketing director to promote classical music and the Paso Robles wine region.

Lisa Mattson possesses 14 years experience in public relations, marketing and event planning within the wine industry.

As communications director at Jordan Vineyard & Winery, Mattson is responsible for all traditional marketing (consumer and trade), writing and public relations initiatives, as well as digital media strategy and execution.

Using the latest high-definition video equipment, Mattson captures everyday life on the Jordan estate and shares the personal stories of those people who strive to continuously improve the wines, vineyards, gardens, grounds and hospitality.

These videos are the winery’s primary storytelling vehicle for its weekly video blog and Facebook page. She believes video is the most compelling and efficient communications tool available to wine companies today—and that online content can be produced and presented in brand relevant ways for luxury products.

From 2005 to 2009, she served as director of communications at Wilson Daniels Ltd., were she led efforts to transform the veteran agency’s communications strategy from focused on print media and traditional third-party endorsements to include all aspects of social media, from Facebook and Twitter to Taste Live and YouTube.

Working with B.Napa Studio, she conceptualized and co-produced the Wilson Daniels Films online documentary series, a tool vital to small wineries seeking to develop emotional connections with consumers and customers online.

Prior to joining Wilson Daniels, Mattson served as event marketing manager at E&J Gallo Winery. She worked as news editor at Wine News magazine in South Florida and in various public relations and communications’ positions at South Florida wine distributors.

Mattson graduated from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Florida International University in 1997 with a major in public relations and a minor in culinary arts.

Marina Mayer is the Retail Sales Manager of Gundlach Bundschu Winery in Sonoma, the oldest family-owned winery in CA, where she carries on a 154-year tradition of passionate exuberance for fine wine and hospitality. 

Born and raised in the hospitality business herself, Marina began her career as the sous chef of her family’s restaurant while in high school, and went on to receive her degree in Hospitality & Restaurant Management from the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, VT.

Over the last decade, she worked in all aspects of the restaurant business - as a chef, server, maitre’d, and food & beverage manager - before earning her level II Sommelier Certification and making the transition to the wine industry.

Martín Rossetti is an experienced filmmaker working in all facets of film production. He has worked on projects across the globe including Spain, South Africa, Argentina and China. Martín’s career in the film industry launched as an undergrad when he was awarded a grant by San Francisco State University to direct and produce his first (and award-winning) documentary, "A Moral Debt".

He has worked with renown public figures such as Michael Moore and Robert Mondavi.  With his great versatility, Martín has not confined his portfolio to just short films and commercials; under his belt is a noteworthy selection of films including Michael Moore’s “Capitalism: A Love Story” and the documentary “Two Escobars”, featured in ESPN’s 30 by 30 and an official selection at Cannes, Tribeca and the Los Angeles Film Festival.

Eric Sklar is co-founder and Managing Partner of Alpha Omega Winery in Rutherford, California. In just five short years Alpha Omega has become a must visit winery for visitors to Napa Valley. Ten years ago Jeff left the data storage industry for the wine industry and hasn't looked back... except for seizing the opportunity to effectively use the Internet and social media tools to market his winery.

Jeff Stevenson is the co-founder, President and CEO of Provino Premium Wines, a wine sales and services company. Provino is one of the leading companies in Direct to Consumer telesales marketing, and bolsters a portfolio of some of the most respected brands in the wine business as its partners and customers. Founded in 2007, Provino employs over 20 people and is located in Santa Rosa, CA.

Jeff is also a partner and winemaker for Herrerias Cellars, a small, artisan winery producing wines since 1987 from locally grown and produced Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Cabernet, Syrah, Malbec and Tempernillo. Jeff participated as a founding member of the Petaluma Gap, a newly created appellation in Sonoma County that recognizes the outstanding quality of Pinot Noir and other varietals produced in this region.

Jeff has over 25 years of business experience in sales, venture capital, business development and software/information technology. In addition to founding Provino, he is a partner/founder of North Bay Adobe Associates LLC, a real estate development company, and Venture Crossing LLC, a Venture Capital consulting and investment business. Previously a General Partner with Alcatel Ventures LLP, the venture arm of French telecom company Alcatel AG, Jeff headed up all technology investment activity for the Silicon Valley office. He is no stranger to startup companies; he joined both NetManage and Netscape Communications when the companies were both initially founded and were startups in every sense of the word. He then participated in the IPO's of each which were both the most successful IPOs in history at that time.

Jeff plays in several bands in Sonoma County, including the Seven Zins (rock/funk) and L’Fiasco (New Orleans funk). He is the founder/co-president of the Porsche Racing Club and races his car whenever time permits.
